What's cooking at kindy?
We love to cook at kindy and are often asked for recipes. We also love having parents in to cook with the children. Of course we always like the recipes to fit in with our Healthy Eating Policy - the following recipes just go to show what delicious treats can be made without chocolates, nuts or high sugar content!

Spring rollsIngredients : Chop and cook all vegetables. Place small amount on pastry sheet. Fold over 3 corners and roll to make cyclinder. Seal with egg. Cook till golden brown in wok with oil. Serve with dipping sauces. Vegie Sausage RollsIngredients : Preheat oven to 220 degrees. Combine mince, vegetables and herbs and mix well. Cut pastry sheets in half and spoon mixture down centre. Fold pastry over filling and seal edges firmly. Cut into small sizes and place on baking tray. Brush with beaten egg before putting in oven. Cheese & Vegemite ScrollsIngredients : Preheat oven to 220 degrees. Line 3 trays with baking paper. Place 1 pastry sheet at a time onto a chopping board. Spread with vegemite and sprinkle with cheese. Roll up pastry 1 at a time. Be careful not to roll the sheets too tight. Cut each roll into 12 equal portions and place on trays allowing room to spread. Brush with beaten egg. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until pastry is golden and cheese has melted. Makes 48. Herb SconesIngredients : Beat egg and sugar. Sift in flour. Add melted butter and herbs. Pat out and use a cutter to make shapes, using plain flour to separate. Bake on 210 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Never fail sconesIngredients : Kids : Beat egg and sugar. Add milk and butter. Add sifted flour and salt. Knead lightly to dough consistency. Adults : Roll and cut dough. Flatten to about 3cm high. Bake in hot oven for 10 mins. Ham & Cheese MuffinsIngredients : Kids : Sift dry ingredients, rub in butter, stir in ham and cheese, then egg and milk. Adults : Cook in moderate oven for 10 - 15 mins. |
Apple muffinsIngredients : Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs. Add yoghurt. Stir in fruit and flour. Spoon into muffin try or patty pans. Bake @ 180 degrees for 20mins. Makes 12 - 15. As a variation try the receipe with strawberries or plums instead of apples. PikeletsIngredients : Add sugar to flour. Add all ingredients. Beat to a pouring consistency. Add extra milk if too thick. Leave to stand for 15-20 minutes before cooking. Sugar FREE Banana CakeIngredients : Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Grease 2 pans. Mix flour, soda and spice. In a separate bowl cream butter and egg. Add 1 teaspoon of dry mixture. Mix well and add fruit. Fold in dry mixture, alternatively with milk. Spread mix in pans and bake for 30-40 minutes. Rock bunsIngredients : Kids : Add all dry ingredients and sultanas; mix with eggs and butter. If the dough is stiff add a little milk. Drop spoonfuls onto a greased tray. Adults : Bake in hot oven for 10 - 15 mins (depending on your oven). Muesli Apricot SliceIngredients : Adults & kids : Mix dry ingredients together, melt butter & golden syrup over low heat & add to mixture. Stir in lightly beaten eggs and mix well. Pour into lightly greased tray (16x26cm) and bake in moderate oven for 30mins. Banana & Date MuffinsIngredients : Kids :Sift dry ingredients and add remaining ingredients. Adults :Cook in moderate oven for 15 mins. |
